New England Tough Mudder at Mount Snow in Vermont.

Details? I've always thought about doing these because I felt like they would level the playing field between the 130# runner guys and the all-around competitors who carry a little more heft. I'm tired of getting smoked at the usual 5k race :D

That obstacle looks awesome. I’ve done 2, the last being at Mt Snow. Contemplating a 3rd and final this year. How did you feel after? lol

Fantastic! I did Tough Mudder in Michigan 3 years ago, it was great.
Since then I’ve done a 4 mile obstacle event that’s local to Michigan called Swampfoot (and I’m doing it again in 3 weeks), and I’ve also done the warrior dash.
Tough Mudder is amazing, the only thing higher would be the full spartan race (which is psycho). I had such a great time doing it and it definitely motivated me to be in the best shape of my life.
Congrats on finishing it!

I loved doing it when I did 3 years ago and I’ve done a couple obstacle races (of shorter distance) since then, including one coming up in 3 weeks.
Definitely more exciting than a 5k, but remember Tough Mudder is normally around 12-13 miles (closer to half marathon length). Warrior Dash is a 5k with obstacles that tours the country if you’re not comfortable with the distance of tough mudder. Oh I hear they’re doing a half distance tough mudder now too. Definitely more intense obstacles at TM than WD.

Wow, I had no idea TM was so long (based on the number of 200#+ guys I've known who have done it). It's so hard to keep them all straight because there are so many knockoffs now...

I really want to run a tough mudder.

I mean the big 3 of them are Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash and Spartan Race.
Tough Mudder has the full 13 mile one and a half distance now
Warrior has always been a 5k
Spartan goes multiple distances up to a full marathon.
I was around 170# when I did it.
Going up the half pipe wall:
At the finish line:
(yes I’m a cheap bastard who didn’t buy the photo)

I’m 205# 6'2", have done Tough Mudder, Spartan Sprint, and Spartan Super. TM has the most complex obstacles and stresses teamwork more than Spartan. Spartan is a race. I actually like the race aspect. It pushes me more. Also, the OP's vid is an obstacle (King of the Swingers) that I blame for making me sick. I got muddy water up in my sinuses on that one.

Are you referring to Spartan Beast, Ultra Beast, Team Challenge, Hurricane Heat, Hurricane Heat 12 Hour, or something else? There are a bunch of crazy Spartan races.

I was thinking of the 26 mile one that’s the marathon distance, if there’s ones that are longer than that, those are even more psychotic. Spartan tends to change the race set ups too much for me to track lol Good for them coming up with more and more crazy shit for people to do though.

This was mount snow actually. It’s my 6th one since August 2nd last year. I got hooked pretty quick. I’m a lot more out of shape this year than last, working on it. Not really that sore, just tired because I drove home after and got home around 3 am and then got up at 5:30 for work. There’s one in new hampshire this year. I’ve got a few planned soon.

you should, you can train as much or as little as you want to. They really stress teamwork and no mudder left behind. It’s a great experience. If you volunteer on a saturday and run sunday its very affordable and a great time.

I did the michigan one last year and it was pretty fun. It was neat running the speedway grounds. Should do an Oppo team!

I made sure I plugged my nose going down, the water gets nasty on Sundays. But that basically made me punch myself in the face when I hit the water lol.

They are usually around 10 miles now. I’m so glad that shock top is the sponsor now, I couldn’t drink dos equis...

you don’t have to run it, you can pick your own pace. my group isn’t very quick. Sometimes I really want to just run and go for it, but I don’t want to leave my team behind.

Gonna look more into it so I can see how I should train and what I'm in for. Sounds like it'll be a good time!

Actually that race made Dos Equis Amber my favorite beer. Tasted like heaven at the end of the race.

Join me at Swampfoot in St Clair in 3 weeks! A buddy from work is doing it with me. it’s 4 miles and jam packed with obstacles.

hmm I wonder if I’ve tried that one. I might have to try it after working on the car.

I’m not sure how far away that is, I’m from Buffalo NY area

If you cut through canada it should be under 4 hours drive time.

that’s not half bad. with bridge traffic and getting up to buffalo it’s about 5.5 hours. Still closer than going around lake erie.

Anyone interested in Spartan Sprint in Washougal WA is welcome to join my team. Look for "Blerch is our Spirit Animal".

Wish I could. WA is just a bit too far for me. Plus I’ve got a lot of cardio to do before I’m ready for a spartan race... burpees too.
![]() 06/20/2016 at 15:12 |

The sprint distance isn't too bad. It's 3-5 miles and ~20 obstacles.

interesting. well I’m working on burning 20 lbs off by the end of august. If I get there I’ll have to give one a try. “Burn the fat, feed the muscle” is an excellent book/program to follow, for me anyway.

It’s still a long way to go for a 4 mile race though lol
